A Soviet trading ship sank into the Italian port. Sailor Roman went ashore. In one of the squares he heard singing. It was sung by Francesca. The sailor was delighted with her voice and beauty. This 2021 Deutsche Oper Berlin performance is directed by Christof Loy and stars soprano Sara Jakubiak in the title role. Riccardo Zandonai’s Francesca da Rimini is a four-act opera set during the Renaissance period. The plot concerns an arranged marriage between Francesca and Giovanni, also known as Gianciotto, who is impersonated by his handsome brother Paolo, and with whom Francesca falls passionately in love.

The story of Canto V of the Inferno is briefly summarized. The film is a remake of The Two Brothers (a.k.a. Francesca di Rimini), and based on the play Francesca da Rimini by Gabriele D'Anunzio. Both films have Florence Turner and James Stuart Blackton starring and directing, respectively. The critics of the time panned the ending, which was said to be 'a pathetic fizzle'.
